A fight at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School is now under investigation after video of the incident circulated widely on social media. The video, reposted by a group known as Fort Worth ISD Watchdog, prompted a swift response from district officials.<\/p>\n
According to Fort Worth ISD, the fight happened Monday, April 6, on the school\u2019s campus. Officials said no serious injuries were reported.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was just sad to see that it happened,\u201d Dunbar High School Fort Worth Alumni President Alvin AJ Jones said.<\/p>\n
Jones said he hopes the fight video doesn’t tarnish his school’s reputation.<\/p>\n
\u201cNot really a reflection of the school. When you look at the school and its history and its richness and the type of students that have come through Dunbar,\u201d Alvin AJ Jones said.<\/p>\n
District officials said the video was reportedly recorded by a student not involved in the fight and only shows part of what happened.<\/p>\n
In a statement, the district said school administrators conducted a prompt review, gathering statements and examining the incident.<\/p>\n
The district added the video \u201ccaptures only a portion of the situation and does not reflect the full context or the immediate response by staff.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Superintendent Peter Licata learned about the fight, he went to the school to meet with campus leadership and reinforce expectations for safety and security.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s always great to be proactive than reactive. And I appreciate that he did take the time to come out and do that,\u201d Jones said.<\/p>\n
The district said appropriate disciplinary action has been taken in accordance with its Student Code of Conduct, and parents or guardians of the students involved have been notified.<\/p>\n
Jones said he hopes the moment becomes a learning opportunity for students, pointing to the long legacy of success tied to the school.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026become great politicians, school board members and lawyers, doctors, and the whole nine aerospace engineers,\u201d Jones said. \u201cLearn to love. Learn to live and learn to grow.”<\/p>\n
He added that he hopes students will continue to uphold the pride and legacy of Dunbar High School. The school is one of the city\u2019s most historic campuses, known for its deep legacy of academic achievement, community pride and cultural significance. Named after poet Paul Laurence Dunbar, the school has educated generations of students who have gone on to become leaders in fields like education, politics, business and the arts, making it a cornerstone of pride in the Fort Worth community.<\/p>\n

“An altercation between students occurred Monday at Dunbar High School and was promptly addressed by campus administration. The incident did not disrupt the remainder of the school day. Campus staff intervened immediately to de-escalate the situation, and the students involved were quickly identified and removed from the area. School administrators conducted a prompt review, including gathering statements and examining the incident.<\/p>\n
We are aware of a video of the incident circulating on social media. The video captures only a portion of the situation and does not reflect the full context or the immediate response by staff. Upon learning about the situation, Superintendent Dr. Peter Licata immediately visited the campus to meet with the principal and executive director to set expectations for safety and security.<\/p>\n
Appropriate disciplinary action has been taken in accordance with the district\u2019s Student Code of Conduct, and the parents or guardians of the students involved have been notified.
