The mall venue, home to youth hockey games, skating practice and birthday parties, will end operations July 31 as a renovation to the mall, including the construction of a new main entrance, will make it impossible to “produce the required ice conditions,” the email states.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ice rink’s website currently states that it is temporarily closed for infrastructure repairs. However, Ice Skate Memorial City said in the email that the rink will be open through its spring season in April and June, and will still host its scheduled open, freestyle and skating programs during that time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognize this news can be difficult. Over the years, the rink has been home to practices, competitions, lessons and friendships that have shaped this community,\u201d the email said. \u201cWe are sincerely grateful to the athletes, coaches, staff, parents and user groups who have made the rink a special place over the years.\u201d<\/p>\n
The email said the business will to donate usable equipment to other rinks and community organizations for future use.<\/p>\n
