LUBBOCK, Texas \u2013 Freshman Ella Brownback<\/a> provided the heroics in singles as the No. 33 Texas Tech Lady Raiders earned their first top-20 win of the season over the No. 20-ranked TCU Horned Frogs, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the McLeod Tennis Center.<\/p>\n

The Lady Raiders (15-9, 6-6 Big 12) claimed an early and much-needed doubles point over TCU (16-4, 9-3 Big 12) to start the match up 1-0. The No. 77 duo of Yekaterina Dmitrichenko<\/a> and Hailey Murphy<\/a> took down Victoria Gomez O’Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai on court one in a near-perfect set, 6-1. With this win, Dmitrichenko broke the program record for dual doubles wins at court one with 21 wins this season, beating out double’s partners Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova<\/a> who set the record in 2024.<\/p>\n

Following the win on court one, Ella Brownback<\/a> and Andreea Lila<\/a> came back from being down 1-3 to clinch the doubles point over Cayetana Gay and Tomi Main, 6-4, on court three. Play on court two was left unfinished with Elena Daskalova<\/a> and Mariaa Hlahola up 6-5 over the Horned Frogs pairing of Raquel Cabellero Chica and Jennifer Jackson.<\/p>\n

Dmitrichenko opened up singles play with dominant sets over Ramos Sierra on court two, 6-3, 6-0, to put Tech up 2-0. The Horned Frogs fought back after No. 83 Chica took down Murphy in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, on court one and Jackson defeated Polina Sleptsova<\/a>, 6-2, 6-3, on court four to tie the overall score to 2-2.<\/p>\n

TCU took the lead at 3-2 when Gay defeated Havana Kadi<\/a> in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. On court three, Daskalova tied up the match at 3-all after beating O’Hayon. Daskalova served to make it 3-2 in the third set, and then won the next three games to secure her match, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Securing the\u00a0top-20 win for the Lady Raiders was\u00a0Brownback on court six, who fought back being down 2-4 in the third set to claim the match over Main, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.<\/p>\n

Up next, the Lady Raiders host the No. 34 Baylor Bears on Saturday at 12\u00a0p.m. at the McLeod Tennis Center.<\/p>\n
