Investigators determined Mickens drugged and beat Cuevas to death, and the animal had nothing to do with Cuevas&#8217; injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He had previously been involved with a multi-level marketing scheme posing as an education program that later paid back millions of dollars to victims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">FORT WORTH, Texas &#8211; A Fort Worth influencer will spend decades in prison after pleading guilty on charges relating to the death of his girlfriend in 2023, an incident he originally blamed on his dog.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"&lt;div&gt;Kaleb Mickens&lt;\/div&gt;\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/52ba89cf6284ed778d25d02ec89f9d0f.jpeg\"\/>Prison sentence for Fort Worth influencer<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">What we know<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">34-year-old Kaleb Mickens received a 40-year prison sentence after accepting a plea deal on a first-degree aggravated assault charge related to the death of Sheila Cuevas in 2023.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"&lt;div&gt;Sheila Cuevas&lt;\/div&gt;\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/0d3db5f0ff6396f30ae42a8b890dec43.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">He was also sentenced to 20 years on a probation revocation and 15 years for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, both from charges in Dallas County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutors were unable to pursue a murder charge after complications with the medical examiner proving the cause of death in the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Multiple previous victims of Mickens&#8217; abuse delivered statements in court on Monday during sentencing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The backstory<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">On Oct. 8, 2023, Mickens called 911 and said his dog Soldier attacked Cuevas, and she was no longer breathing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Cuevas was found at the foot of her bed with several broken ribs and puncture wounds at the time of her death.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"&lt;div&gt;Mickens' dog Soldier&lt;\/div&gt;\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/f1977af065e206ed1f77a84c8aefe215.jpeg\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The dog was euthanized following the incident. However, Mickens was later arrested and charged with aggravated assault.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Investigators determined that Mickens had drugged and beat Cuevas to death, and that the dog had nothing to do with Cuevas&#8217; injuries.<\/p>\n<p>IM Academy scheme<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Dig deeper<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Mickens, who went by the nickname &#8220;Cash Cartier,&#8221; was involved in the multi-level marketing scheme IM Academy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Prosecutors said Mickens was making around $20,000 a week at the height of the scheme.
