CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Police say a routine traffic stop took a dangerous turn, leading to the arrest of two teens in San Antonio’s southwest side. <\/p>\n
SAN ANTONIO \u2014 A routine traffic stop on the southwest side escalated into a foot pursuit and arrest of two teens, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n
DPS said a trooper pulled over a Chevrolet Malibu off Medina Base Road for a broken brake light and expired registration tags.<\/p>\n
According to DPS, before the vehicle came to a complete stop, the trooper noticed movement inside the car. During the stop, the trooper reported smelling marijuana and instructed the occupants to exit the vehicle.<\/p>\n
Authorities said that\u2019s when a passenger suddenly fled on foot. DPS stated the passenger was believed to be armed with a firearm.<\/p>\n
The trooper pursued the suspect and deployed a Taser, bringing him to the ground, according to DPS.<\/p>\n
Both the driver and passenger were taken into custody. DPS identified the driver as Michael Alvarez and the passenger as Gilbert \u201cGilly\u201d Junior. Officials said both face multiple charges.<\/p>\n
