{"id":245323,"date":"2026-04-11T18:02:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-11T18:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/245323\/"},"modified":"2026-04-11T18:02:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-11T18:02:11","slug":"suspect-shot-killed-by-officer-during-traffic-stop-in-north-houston-police-say","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/245323\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspect shot, killed by officer during traffic stop in north Houston, police say"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao MvWXB TjIXL aGjvy ebVHC \">HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) &#8212; A man is dead after a traffic stop led to an officer shooting and killing a suspect, according to the Houston Police Department.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">HPD said an officer pulled over a driver near Airline Drive and Tidwell Road early Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">According to authorities, the driver resisted arrest when they tried to detain him and then started to fight.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;The sergeant&#8217;s weapon was discharged, and the suspect ran from the scene. The suspect was located nearby with several gunshot wounds. They did provide first aid; the suspect was transported, but, unfortunately, the suspect was pronounced deceased at the hospital,&#8221; HPD Assistant Chief Cantu said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">HPD said the sergeant sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Police said the man killed wasn&#8217;t armed, and officers haven&#8217;t said what prompted the traffic stop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC eTIW sUzSN \">The incident is being investigated by HPD&#8217;s Special Investigative Unit, as well as the Harris County District Attorney&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2026 KTRK-TV.
