{"id":246332,"date":"2026-04-12T13:34:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T13:34:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/246332\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T13:34:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T13:34:15","slug":"fort-worth-isd-has-more-than-200-teaching-vacancies-records-show","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/246332\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth ISD has more than 200 teaching vacancies, records show"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The schools with the most vacancies are at South Hills High School and Como Success Academy, which each have seven vacancies.<\/p>\n<p>FORT WORTH, Texas \u2014 Ahead of its first full school year <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/education\/fort-worth-isd-new-state-appointed-board-holds-first-meeting-amid-takeover\/287-152b1cc9-8d27-48be-bf9f-2b010451e498\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">under state control<\/a>, Fort Worth ISD has more than 200 teaching vacancies that need to be filled across the district, records show.<\/p>\n<p>According to public records obtained by WFAA, the district has 213 vacancies across 89 divisions.<\/p>\n<p>South Hills High School and Como Success Academy each have the most vacant positions, seven.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the district is in the midst of a transition to state control, as ruled by the Texas Education Association. The district&#8217;s new state-appointed board had its first meeting late last month, where it promised transparency and improvements.<\/p>\n<p>The district also has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/education\/what-fort-worth-isd-paying-state-appointed-superintendent-peter-licata\/287-a9f23bee-4c4f-4981-a055-7efc97d7b405\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">new state-appointed superintendent<\/a>, Peter Licata, who is being paid $1,384.62 a day on an interim basis as the district tackles a $40 million deficit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Licata said his immediate focus is improving classroom instruction, starting with teacher recruitment and pay. He floated the possibility of significantly higher salaries for top-performing teachers in struggling schools, potentially reaching $110,000 to $120,000 annually, though funding details remain unclear.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That is what we&#8217;re working on,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1HCM4_KD5MM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">he told WFAA during a sit-down interview<\/a>. &#8220;I am very confident. I&#8217;m not confident. I&#8217;m very confident we will be able to compete, if not beat, the other local ISDs. I just went through the budget, and I know we\u2019re $40 million in debt, but that\u2019s going to change real soon.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/education\/fort-worth-isd-state-takeover-tea-mike-morath\/287-9988929e-92ff-43fd-b1d3-28ed9680a308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a0state takeover was triggered in October 2025<\/a> after one campus received a fifth consecutive failing academic rating, as required under Texas law. Licata replaces<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/fort-worth-isd-selects-dr-karen-molinar-as-its-next-superintendent\/287-9209046b-00b5-4625-b759-18e3f8b999a3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">\u00a0former superintendent Karen Molinar<\/a>, who had led the district since March 2025.<\/p>\n<p>TEA Commissioner Mike Morath previously announced he&#8217;ll assess academic progress in two years. If improvement isn&#8217;t sufficient, he&#8217;ll then reassess after another two years.
