But that shouldn’t discount the possibility of more rain.

“There are a lot of eyes on the severe weather potential in the central/southern plains on Tuesday and Wednesday next week, and that threat does remain to our northwest on both days,” wrote the NWS in Houston-Galveston late Saturday night.

Much of Oklahoma is under a marginal or severe storm threat Tuesday and Wednesday, with risks including golf-ball-sized hail, wind speeds of up to 70 mph and even tornadoes. While the stronger stuff should stay more north of Texas, forecasters in Dallas-Fort Worth and Austin-San Antonio are expecting the possibility that rough weather makes its way south into their parts of the state.

“Although nothing super high for this time of year, the moderate CAPE [convective available potential energy] and shear expected both days will be sufficient for a strong to severe storm threat with any storms that form,” wrote the NWS in Dallas-Fort Worth early Sunday morning.

This means the forecast for North Texas calls for a relatively quiet Monday with highs in the 80s, followed by increasing chances of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday, with highs staying in the low 80s. Shower chances should stay moderate into Wednesday, with winds increasing to up to 25 mph.

Meanwhile, folks closer to Austin should prepare for possible showers early Monday with highs in the mid-80s. It’ll clear out Tuesday, but showers and thunderstorms could hit Wednesday morning, with winds as high as 25 mph. High temperatures will remain in the 80s.

Will showers and thunderstorms reach Southeast Texas this week? Forecasters aren’t seeing much of a threat, outside of some passing showers Monday. Otherwise, prepare for temperatures solidly in the 80s with partly sunny skies. The high could climb close to 90 by the weekend, too, meaning spring is unfortunately almost gone.
