HUNTSVILLE, \u2014 Sam Houston closed out its series against Missouri State with a 9-1 run-rule victory Sunday afternoon at the Bearkat Softball Complex.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Bearkats (27-19, 11-7 Conference USA) took an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Peyton Helmly<\/a>. Sam Houston\u00a0added to\u00a0its advantage in the second when Sophia Lundstrom<\/a> delivered a two-run triple.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Missouri State (18-22, 6-12 CUSA) responded in the top of the third inning with four hits off Kendall Daniel<\/a>. Lauren Rowland drove in the Bears’ lone run with an RBI single to right field.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both teams were held scoreless over the next two innings before the Bearkats broke through in the sixth. Lundstrom ignited the rally with a two-run double, followed by RBI singles from Helmly and Abbey Papadimitriou<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sam Houston secured the run-rule victory in the sixth inning, 9-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lundstrom led the Bearkats\u00a0at\u00a0the plate, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs. She also extended her team lead with 14 doubles this season. Daniel earned the win in the circle, recording three strikeouts. Tiffany Sanchez<\/a> provided relief, tossing two hitless innings with no runs or walks allowed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sam Houston will continue conference play next weekend, traveling to Ruston, Louisiana, for a three-game series against Louisiana Tech.
