After dropping the first two games of its SEC series against rival Oklahoma,\u00a0Texas softball<\/a> likely dropped out of the race for a conference championship. Now, the No. 4 Longhorns<\/a>\u00a0(32-6, 9-5 SEC) just want to snap out of a sudden losing streak that has stretched to four games.<\/p>\n

The Longhorns\u00a0lost two of three games<\/a>\u00a0last week to Alabama, and they fell to No. 2 Oklahoma (40-3, 13-1) Friday 3-0<\/a> and Saturday 4-3<\/a>. They\u2019ll likely turn again to ace Teagan Kavan in Sunday\u2019s series finale while trying to avoid the series sweep.<\/p>\n

Second baseman Leighann Goode gives Texas a little insurance with her eighth home run of the season. Goode knew the solo shot to left center was\u00a0gone\u00a0right off the bat. OU brings in Allyssa Parker, its fourth pitcher of the game.<\/p>\n

Texas starter Teagan Kavan gets some nice help from the defense in a 1-2-3 inning. Katie Stewart robs Kendall Wells of a hit by snagging a line drive at first, and 2B Leighann Goode makes a play deep in the hole to get Kasidi Pickering at first.<\/p>\n

OU reliever Berkley Zache fans Reece Atwood for the third out with two on the bags. Atwood is in a slump by her All-American standards; she doesn’t have an RBI this series and is 5-of-20 over the past six games.<\/p>\n

A throwing error on freshman catcher Kendall Wells allows Kayden Henry to motor into second base with one out, and OU will turn to its third pitcher of the game in Berkley Zache to face the heart of the Texas lineup. The 6-foot sophomore righty has only thrown 8 2\/3 innings this season and given up 11 hits and four runs with five walks and nine strikeouts. A lot happens when she’s in the circle for the Sooners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A pair of back-to-back two-out hits from the Sooners is followed by an error from 3B Jaycie Nichols on a grounder by Kai Minor. That brings home Sydney Barker from third. But Teagan Kavan again escapes further damage by forcing Ella Parker into a popout to first with the bases juiced. The Sooners have now left six runners on the bags.<\/p>\n

Mike White brings in Vic Hunter to pinch hit for Jaycie Nichols and match up with the left-handed Kierston Deal, but Deal fans Hunter for the third out as Texas strands two. The coaches\u00a0are playing a little dugout chess right now.<\/p>\n

Reese Atwood singles for Texas’s fifth hit, and OU coach Patty Gasso is already going into her bullpen with one out and Ashton Maloney at the plate. Veteran Kierston Deal enters the game; she’s only thrown 13 2\/3 innings this season and has allowed 24 hits and 19 runs, all earned.\u00a0<\/p>\n

OU’s Abby Dayton blasts a solo homer into the left-center bleachers, and the Sooners cut into the Texas lead. But Texas starter Teagan Kavan avoids any more trouble as the Sooners strand two. They’ve left four on the bags so far.<\/p>\n

After back-to-back singles from Jaycie Nichols and Kaydee Bennett, CF Kayden Henry clears the bags with a 3-run bomb over the centerfield wall. The Texas lineup needed some juice, and the junior obliges with her sixth homer of the season.<\/p>\n

Another nice play from Vivi Martinez at short and a second strikeout from Teagan Kavan sends the Sooners down in order.<\/p>\n

Oklahoma starter Sydney Berzon (5-1, 2.39 ERA) walks Kayden Henry and gives up a single to Katie Stewart to open the game, then Leighann Goode draws a 2-out walk to load the bags. But Berzon gets a force out at home after Ashton Maloney trickles a grounder back to the circle. Both teams have missed scoring opportunities in the first inning.<\/p>\n

Texas starter Teagan Kavan throws a ball to Kai Minor, and we’re underway in Game 3 at\u00a0McCombs Field. Kavan (15-3, 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP) has lost three of her past four starts, but she threw well in Friday’s 3-0 loss to Oklahoma. She struck out a season-high 13 batters in seven innings while becoming\u00a0the sixth Texas pitcher with 500 career strikeouts, joining Cat Osterman (2,265), Blaire Luna (1,428), Meagan Denny (988), Christa Williams (678) and Tiarra Davis (508).<\/p>\n

Texas coach Mike White is shaking up his lineup while trying to avoid the sweep at the hands of Oklahoma. Junior slugger Katie Stewart, the team leader in home runs and RBIs, has hit behind All-American catcher Reese Atwood all season but moves up to the No. 2 spot in the lineup. She doesn’t have an RBI this series but went 2-for-4 in Saturday’s Game 2 loss. Second baseman Leighann Goode moves down the lineup to No. 5 behind Atwood, and freshman Alisa Sneed (.312 batting average) will start in left field and hit in the No. 7 spot.\u00a0<\/p>\n
