The latest news surrounding Miami EDGE Rueben Bain Jr. raises questions about how NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys included, will factor in some off-the-field concerns when the 2026 NFL Draft comes around. <\/p>\n
On Sunday, Ollie Connolly from Read Optional reported<\/a> Bain Jr. \u201cwas cited for careless driving after a 2024 crash that left a passenger in a coma.\u201d The passenger died three months later. According to an additional report from Outkick\u2019s Trey Wallace<\/a>, Bain Jr. was also cited for reckless driving in 2025. Both cases were ultimately dismissed. <\/p>\n A to Z Sports was able to confirm the latest information on Bain Jr<\/a>. and also talked to several team sources to get a grasp of teams\u2019 perception of the available information. Below are some key takeaways from a story published earlier by our own Easton Freeze and Ryan Roberts. <\/p>\n Questions about Bain Jr.\u2019s draft positioning<\/p>\n Right now, it\u2019s unclear how the information will affect Bain Jr.\u2019s draft position. However, here are some notes from A to Z Sports\u2019 reporting:<\/p>\n One AFC West source claimed Bain Jr.\u2019s arm length concerns \u201cwould have been used as an excuse to not draft him early if this accident had not been reported before the draft.\u201d<\/p>\n An NFC South team claims Bain\u2019s name is \u201cflipped over\u201d on their board, which is close to being off of it altogether. <\/p>\n Another two NFL teams shared similar stances on the Miami EDGE. <\/p>\n According to at least one report though, teams are \u201csatisfied\u201d with Bain\u2019s explanation so far. <\/p>\n CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones<\/a>\u00a0weighed in after the news dropped from Connolly. According to Jones, teams have \u201cbeen satisfied with Bain\u2019s explanation. Most have considered the matter handled.\u201d That very well could be true, but as of now, the A to Z Sports staff hasn\u2019t spoken with any teams that are fully comfortable with the situation.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u2013 Easton Freeze, ryan roberts<\/p>\n A to Z Sports<\/p>\n Cory Kinnan from Daft on Draft released<\/a> a statement from the passenger\u2019s family which read: \u201cAt this time, we\u2019re not seeking public attention surrounding this tragedy and respectfully request that our family\u2019s privacy be honored. We also wish Mr. Bain the best as he continues his life and career.\u201d<\/p>\n As far as the Cowboys go, indications have been they\u2019re considering drafting an edge rusher early in the draft.
