{"id":246997,"date":"2026-04-13T01:51:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T01:51:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/246997\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T01:51:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T01:51:08","slug":"first-time-homebuyers-made-up-fifth-of-texas-real-estate-market-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/246997\/","title":{"rendered":"First-time homebuyers made up fifth of Texas real estate market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First-time\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/real-estate\/article\/san-antonio-down-payment-homes-realtor-com-21268501.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">homebuyers in Texas<\/a> made up 21% of last year\u2019s market \u2014 up just one percentage point from the previous year\u2019s record low.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasrealestate.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026_Texas_Homebuyers_and_Sellers_Report.pdf\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a new report<\/a> from Texas Realtors, a political advocacy group\u00a0for real estate agents. The group analyzed real estate transactions from July 2024 to June 2025.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s first-time buyers were not in the housing market during the pandemic years of low mortgage rates and quick home value increases, which may leave some of them feeling a step behind,\u201d said Jennifer Wauhob, Texas Realtors chair. \u201cMeanwhile, homeowners who built up some equity may be able to sell and make a substantial down payment on another home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Potential buyers face high home prices and mortgage rates and it often takes two incomes to afford a home. Unsurprisingly, 68% of all buyers statewide were married, while single men and women made up a quarter of buyers.<\/p>\n<p>The median household income of those who purchased a home was $112,500.<\/p>\n<p>Buyer\u2019s had a median age of 58 years old,\u00a0the same as in the prior period of analysis, Texas Realtors found.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s on par with the median age \u2014 59 years old \u2014 of home buyers nationwide from July 2024 to June 2025, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nar.realtor\/newsroom\/first-time-home-buyer-share-falls-to-historic-low-of-21-median-age-rises-to-40\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">data from<\/a> the National Association of Realtors.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s also not an easy market for those looking to sell their home.<\/p>\n<p>Most sellers in Texas had to slash their asking prices, according to Texas Realtors\u2019 report.
