{"id":247060,"date":"2026-04-13T03:16:17","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T03:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/247060\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T03:16:17","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T03:16:17","slug":"crime-recap-345-arrested-last-week-in-el-paso-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/247060\/","title":{"rendered":"Crime recap: 345 arrested last week in El Paso County"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Colorado Springs police saw several crashes, arson and an arrest involving child sexual abuse last week, among other incidents, with 345 arrests being made in El Paso County.<\/p>\n<p>From April 5 to 11, the Colorado Springs Police Department posted 13 blotter entries to its public database of incidents approved for release.\u00a0Here is a recap of those entries:<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, a motorcyclist died at a hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in the\u00a06800 block of Corporate Drive. The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and no arrests were made, but speed is being investigated as a factor in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, two pedestrians were struck by a car at a Walmart in the 3200 block of East Platte Avenue and left with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. An initial investigation revealed that a vehicle lost control, striking the pedestrians and two vehicles before regaining control. Police say speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. <\/p>\n<p>Also on Thursday, police arrested Theodore Mendoza, 33, on an arrest warrant relating to possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material. At the time of arrest, police say they recovered evidence related to the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, just after midnight, a Ford Fusion failed to stop at a solid red light at Peterson Road and North Carefree Circle, traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver struck a Jeep, causing it to roll several times. All parties involved were taken to a hospital, and speed and impairment appear to be factors in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Friday, a motorcyclist collided with a truck, causing the rider to become airborne. They sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Police reminded the community to be aware of bikers as the weather gets warmer.<\/p>\n<p>Other incidents at a glance: <\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, April 5, police arrested the occupants of a \u201csuspicious vehicle,\u201d Jason Norman and Kurt Anderson, after allegedly finding illegal narcotics and drug paraphernalia in their possession, then identifying two locations where the suspects sold narcotics. Police say additional arrests are possible. <\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, an officer was headbutted in the face while arresting a suspect, Heather Griffith. She faces charges of second-degree assault on a peace officer, among other misdemeanor\u00a0offenses.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, police responded to the 1600 block of Zebulon Drive for a family disturbance. When they arrived, they learned that an unspecified felony crime had been committed by a suspect, Arthur Croghan. He allegedly resisted arrest and a struggle ensued until additional officers arrived. Officers and the suspect sustained minor injuries. <\/p>\n<p>On Thursday morning, police responded to CommonSpirit Penrose Hospital near the Old North End for reports of a bomb threat. After investigation, the threat was deemed to be \u201csimply a crockpot\u201d in the hospital\u2019s parking garage. No arrests were made.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Thursday, police responded to Temple Shalom after receiving a report that an unknown man with a \u201cpossible Middle-Eastern accent\u201d made threats that he would go to the temple with an AR-15 and pipe bomb to \u201cshoot and blow the place up.\u201d Police found no credible threat.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, police arrested Gordon McCormick after he allegedly attempted to flee the scene of a single-vehicle crash, in which he struck landscaping and decorative concrete before rolling and becoming disabled in the 400 block of South Nevada Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Also on Friday, police attempted a traffic stop on a stolen Audi occupied by a suspect, Malik Caco, 24, when Caco fled the scene. Police located the vehicle and used a grappler, successfully stopping the car. Caco was arrested and faces charges of motor vehicle theft and felony vehicular eluding.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, police responded to a downtown alleyway, where several fires were started.
