{"id":247162,"date":"2026-04-13T05:10:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T05:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/247162\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T05:10:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T05:10:11","slug":"fwisd-managers-weigh-staff-reductions-related-to-school-closures-new-campus-model","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/247162\/","title":{"rendered":"FWISD managers weigh staff reductions related to school closures, new campus model"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"&quot;byline&quot;\">by Jacob Sanchez, Fort Worth Report <br \/>April 12, 2026<\/p>\n<p>Fort Worth ISD\u2019s state-appointed <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/24\/some-of-fort-worths-top-leaders-named-to-isd-board-of-managers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">board of managers<\/a> on Tuesday will consider a reduction in force related to school closures and the introduction of a new school model.<\/p>\n<p>FWISD managers will vote on the resolution at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the District Service Center, 7060 Camp Bowie Blvd. The special board meeting also is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCFZQY9TD4geB_jdJPxArtxQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">livestreamed on YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reduction in force due to program change is directly tied to school closures that were approved under the district\u2019s existing master facility plan,\u201d spokesperson Jessica Becerra said. \u201cWe have not expanded or altered that plan; we are implementing decisions that were already in place before the current administration arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/resources.finalsite.net\/images\/v1775684702\/fwisdorg\/hu7xzc6n4hm2r5fjrw5m\/April142026SpecialBoardMeeting.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Other items on the agenda<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/29\/we-dont-have-time-texas-appointed-superintendent-sets-urgent-tone-for-fwisd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Superintendent Peter Licata<\/a> unveiling a new school model\u00a0called the Elevate Network.<br \/>\nA presentation on <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/30\/farrington-field-proposals-questioned-by-fwisd-trustees-then-the-state-took-over\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">selling land around Farrington Field<\/a>.<br \/>\nRescinding a 2018 resolution about <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/19\/cesar-chavezs-name-removed-across-fort-worth-following-sex-abuse-allegations\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez<\/a> and revising a policy on the renaming of buildings. FWISD has an elementary school named after Ch\u00e1vez, a civil rights icon who allegedly groomed and sexually abused underaged girls and women.<br \/>\nVoting to remove the additional calendar days at 15 campuses so administrators can better prepare for the extended school year. The longer calendar would go into effect at those campuses next school year.<\/p>\n<p>The school closures are a result of <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/01\/19\/as-campus-closures-begin-fwisd-eyes-low-student-enrollment-at-other-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">declining enrollment<\/a> and district leaders wanting to <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/03\/20\/fort-worth-isd-looks-to-spur-reading-renaissance-through-literacy-infused-budget\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">redirect resources<\/a> to bring an academic boost to students. A memo to the board did not state how many employees will be affected.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/12\/29\/4-fwisd-schools-close-in-may-heres-where-students-will-attend-class-next-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Four schools will close in May<\/a> when the current academic year ends: Riverside Applied Learning Center; Charles Nash Elementary; Milton K. Kirkpatrick Elementary; Edward J. Briscoe Elementary.<\/p>\n<p>Elected trustees and the previous superintendent intended to close De Zavala Elementary in May, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/02\/19\/daggett-montessori-moving-into-de-zavala-campus-after-fwisd-elementary-closes-in-may\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a year ahead of its planned shutter<\/a>. However, Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath removed them from power ahead of trustees\u2019 vote on March 24.<\/p>\n<p>The superintendent will detail a reshaping of how Fort Worth ISD schools teach students, according to board documents. Part of the instructional revamp is the introduction of the Elevate Network, 13 schools that will receive additional support. <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2025\/09\/24\/fort-worth-isd-to-overhaul-7-struggling-schools-with-new-teacher-focused-turnaround-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">A separate turnaround school model<\/a> called Accelerated Campus Excellence is still <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/03\/09\/fwisd-bets-on-100k-teaching-salaries-proven-leadership-to-revive-struggling-schools\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">moving forward at six campuses<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Impacted teachers will be notified following the board of managers\u2019 decision Tuesday evening, according to district documents.<\/p>\n<p>The network will include:<\/p>\n<p>Westcreek Elementary<br \/>\nDiamond Hill Elementary<br \/>\nEast Handley Elementary<br \/>\nGeorge Clarke Elementary<br \/>\nHarlean Beal Elementary<br \/>\nHazel Harvey Peace Elementary<br \/>\nMaudrie Walton Elementary<br \/>\nMonnig Middle School<br \/>\nRufunino Mendoza Elementary<br \/>\nT.A. Sims Elementary<br \/>\nVan Zandt-Guinn Elementary<br \/>\nW.J. Turner Elementary<br \/>\nW.M. Green Elementary<\/p>\n<p>A draft slideshow shows the Elevate Network will address persistent academic underperformance, build up teachers, establish consistent instruction and increase resources and staffing for designated schools.<\/p>\n<p>Elevate schools will feature:<\/p>\n<p>Higher compensation.<br \/>\nA longer school year that stretches into the summer.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2023\/02\/26\/texas-has-a-shortage-of-teachers-will-this-program-solve-the-problem\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Teacher residents<\/a>, who are college students training in the classroom before <a href=\"https:\/\/fortworthreport.org\/2026\/04\/08\/fwisd-leans-on-teacher-pipeline-to-build-stability-during-texas-takeover\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">becoming a full-time educator<\/a>.<br \/>\nStandardized classroom setup.<br \/>\nA space called the Mastery Lab for students who exceed proficiency in a topic.<br \/>\nAdditional support staff for teachers during lessons and small group instruction.<\/p>\n<p>Disclosure: FWISD manager Pete Geren leads the Sid W.
