Patience will be key this week for any\u00a0drivers grabbing a late-night <\/a>meal or drink on the Far Northside of San Antonio. Major progress on the revamp of Loop 1604 <\/a>and I-10 calls for big time closures as well, and one popular shopping destination is going to see the impacts again.<\/p>\n

Part of the $1.4 billion project to improve Loop 1604 \u2013 transforming it into a 10-lane highway reconfiguring the I-10 intersection into an overwhelming stack of connector ramps \u2013 entails making improvements to I-10 near The RIM and The Shops at La Cantera. This means the entire intersection at La Cantera Parkway and I-10 will be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Friday, April 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project,<\/a> TxDOT will require closures for bridge construction\u201d the Texas Department of Transportation warns, noting even the U-turns on either side of the intersection will be closed as well.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not the first time this has been called for by any means. It\u2019s been a near monthly closure since early 2026. Generally, most storefronts will have locked up for evening by the time these closures take place, but some restaurants and bars still open may be more difficult to access. A little planning on the way there or back could go a long way.<\/p>\n

Essentially, anyone hoping to cross I-10 along La Cantera Parkway will have to turn right and use a turn around down the road. For those heading from La Cantera toward The Rim, that entails using the series of lights under I-10 and Loop 1604. Those coming from The Rim can use the Camp Bullis Road turnaround.<\/p>\n

While these closures can feel really inconvenient at times, it\u2019s all part of a bigger plan to help seriously reduce a busy stretch of the largest state loop in Texas. Progress is trucking along quickly in these sections, or phases, and the project at the intersection should be wrapped up by next year. Already, drivers can see the improvements with the few direct connector ramps that have opened.<\/p>\n
