Park Blvd., on Oct. 22, following a $12 million renovation and expansion underwritten by the 2021 bond referendum.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"433\" data-end=\"468\">A Station Re-Built for Growth<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"469\" data-end=\"803\">Since first opening in 1983,<a href=\"https:\/\/volunteers.plano.gov\/event\/detail\/?event_id=113598\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Station <\/a>5 has served Plano residents through four decades of growth. To keep pace with rising demand and modern emergency services expectations, the city nearly doubled the building\u2019s footprint \u2013 from 7,200 square feet to 14,000 square feet.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"805\" data-end=\"857\">The additional space enables Plano Fire-Rescue to:<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"860\" data-end=\"1028\">House more emergency vehicles and equipment, including a new medical unit (ambulance) and a hazardous-materials truck &amp; trailer.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1031\" data-end=\"1183\">Offer upgraded living quarters for crews, including more beds and improved rest spaces tailored for long shifts.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1186\" data-end=\"1322\">Incorporate a dedicated storm shelter and expanded parking areas for staff and public visitors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1324\" data-end=\"1344\">Why It Matters<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1713\">As Plano continues to grow in population and complexity, having a purpose-built emergency services infrastructure matters.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1713\">Fire Chief <a href=\"https:\/\/planomagazine.com\/plano-fire-chief-designation\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chris Biggerstaff<\/a> noted that adding space to store haz-mat equipment and consolidating apparatus under one roof were major drivers for the project.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1345\" data-end=\"1713\">\u201cIt\u2019s basically a brand-new station,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1715\" data-end=\"2002\">Improved crew accommodations also play a role in readiness and welfare.
