It\u2019s official: the rest of the world is finally catching on to what we\u2019ve known all along. In the newly released 2026 Food & Wine Global Tastemaker Awards, Houston has officially been named the No. 6 best food city in the United States<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s ranking marks a major climb for the Space City, which jumped three spots from its No. 9 position in 2025. Not only did Houston move up in the national rankings, but it also officially leapfrogged Austin (No. 7) to claim the title of the highest-ranked food city in Texas.<\/p>\n

According to Food & Wine\u2019s panel of over 400 experts\u2014including chefs, travel writers, and critics\u2014Houston\u2019s culinary prowess is in part due to its diversity. As the most diverse large city in the country, Houston\u2019s food scene is a \u201cmulticultural marriage\u201d of flavors.<\/p>\n

The report<\/a> specifically highlighted the city\u2019s ability to offer world-class Tex-Mex, Vietnamese, Indian, Japanese, and Cajun cuisines alongside its \u201cpeerless\u201d Texas barbecue.<\/p>\n

While the entire city received accolades, a few local staples were singled out as essential stops for any foodie, including: Theodore Rex, Feges BBQ, Tatem\u00f3, and Anvil Bar & Refuge<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cEverything\u2019s bigger in Texas, and Houston is no exception. It boasts the most ethnically diverse population of any large city in the country.
