{"id":248532,"date":"2026-04-14T02:49:32","date_gmt":"2026-04-14T02:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/248532\/"},"modified":"2026-04-14T02:49:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-14T02:49:32","slug":"traffic-signals-road-extensions-6-austin-metro-transportation-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/248532\/","title":{"rendered":"Traffic signals, road extensions: 6 Austin metro transportation updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCheck out the latest upcoming, ongoing or completed transportation projects around the Austin metro, including a neighborhood flood risk reduction project, new traffic signals for road extensions, and new regional bus routes connecting Bastrop County to Austin, Georgetown and Round Rock.<\/p>\n<p>Upcoming projects<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/southwest-austin-dripping-springs\/transportation\/2026\/04\/09\/check-out-2-transportation-projects-in-southwest-austin-dripping-springs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Darden Hill Road\/CR 162 Phase 2<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Project: Hays County will construct a four-lane divided roadway spanning 1.7 miles from the Sawyer Ranch roundabout to RM 1826.<\/p>\n<p>Update: A partially executed utility coordination public service announcement and work authorization is expected to be presented to the Hays County Commissioners Court on April 14.<\/p>\n<p>Timeline: slated to complete summer 2027Cost: $51.79 millionFunding source: 2016 road bondOngoing projects<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/lake-travis-westlake\/transportation\/2026\/04\/09\/hamilton-pool-bee-creek-5-western-travis-county-transportation-updates\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hamilton Pool Road Safety Improvement Project Phase II<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Project: The project will add shoulders, turn lanes and an increasing curve radius along Hamilton Pool Road, from east of the Pedernales River to east of High Plains Drive.<\/p>\n<p>Update: Per Travis County officials, design for the project is complete, and the project in full is 50% complete as of April.<\/p>\n<p>Timeline: second quarter of 2026-end of 2026Cost: $2.39 millionFunding source: Travis County bonds<a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/northwest-austin\/transportation\/2026\/04\/10\/flood-risk-highways-3-ongoing-northwest-austin-transportation-projects\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Oak Knoll Flood Risk Reduction<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Project: The project is part of the Watershed Protection Department\u2019s Capital Improvement Program and will improve the storm drain system in part of the Oak Knoll neighborhood to reduce the risk of flooding, including the installation of new storm drain pipes and inlets on several roads and easements, and increasing the capacity of the Chelsea Moor detention pond.<\/p>\n<p>Update: According to Austin Capital Delivery Services, crews have installed and tested new waterlines along Columbia Oaks Drive, Columbia Oaks Court and the first section of Oak Knoll. Crews will next install storm drains along Woodcrest Drive and Columbia Oaks Court, during which time a 24-hour flagger station on Columbia Oaks Drive and J. Gregg Cove will be set up to control traffic.<\/p>\n<p>Timeline: 2025-27Cost: $9 millionFunding source: city of Austin 2018 bondTraffic signals coming soon to Wyoming Springs Drive extension in Round Rock<\/p>\n<p>City crews will install traffic light arms at two intersections of the Wyoming Springs Drive extension in the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Extending Wyoming Springs between Creek Bend Boulevard and Old Settlers Boulevard is intended to enhance connectivity and reduce traffic congestion in western Round Rock, as previously reported by Community Impact.<\/p>\n<p>The $29.7 million road project is funded through a combination of sales tax revenue, city-issued bonds and the Williamson County Road Bond program.<\/p>\n<p>The road extension includes a four-lane divided roadway and shared-use paths from Creek Bend Boulevard to Old Settlers Boulevard, and extending over Brushy Creek. By offering an additional north-south route in west Round Rock, the Wyoming Springs extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion on Old Settlers Boulevard, Sam Bass Road and Creek Bend Boulevard, according to city staff.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/round-rock\/transportation\/2026\/04\/07\/traffic-signals-coming-soon-to-wyoming-springs-drive-extension-in-round-rock\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read the full story. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Completed projects <\/p>\n<p>CARTS boosts metro-bound Bastrop County routes to cut traffic, emissions<\/p>\n<p>Bastrop County commuters gained new transit options March 2 with the launch of two regional bus routes culminating in downtown Austin: one connecting Bastrop and Smithville, and the other connecting Georgetown and Round Rock.<\/p>\n<p>Riders can park at CARTS Park &amp; Ride locations and take coach buses into Austin, offering an alternative to driving and downtown parking, said Dana Platt, community engagement director for the Capital Area Rural Transportation System.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/bastrop-cedar-creek\/transportation\/2026\/04\/09\/carts-boosts-metro-bound-bastrop-county-routes-to-cut-traffic-emissions\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read the full story.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>City of Hutto completes road projects to improve driver, pedestrian safety<\/p>\n<p>A new traffic signal at Innovation Boulevard and Limmer Loop in Hutto is now operational.<\/p>\n<p>Construction crews installed a new signal at the intersection, converting it from a two-way stop into a new four-lane signal stop intersection. The project cost around $2.23 million, stemming from the city\u2019s capital projects fund.
