SAN ANTONIO \u2013 Cars continue to crash on Southwest Loop 410 near Dartmoor Street six months after a car plowed into a man\u2019s bedroom<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Oct. 26, 2025, a person drove their car through Juan Rodriguez\u2019 bedroom wall while driving on the Loop 410 access road on the Southwest Side.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the fourth time that there\u2019s been a car wreck in my property, but this is the first time it\u2019s gone into the house,\u201d Rodriguez said back in October.<\/p>\n

Since then, several neighbors have shared their complaints of the same issue: speeding.<\/p>\n

\u201cCome off that exit flying. They ran through our fence like five times, six times,\u201d neighbor Scott said. <\/p>\n

Another neighbor, Marcus, said, \u201cI hear them speeding all night.<\/p>\n

District 4 City Councilman Edward Mungia previously said<\/a> the issue isn\u2019t solely in the city\u2019s hands because the access road is maintained by the state.<\/p>\n

Mungia said a project is planned to replace the current barrier system.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey (Texas Department of Transportation) are going to remove those metal barriers that everyone just goes right through when they crash and they\u2019re going to concrete lips all along the access road,\u201d Mungia said. \u201cIt\u2019s just a couple feet, two or three feet off the ground, and it\u2019s got just solid concrete … to help prevent cars from going past that.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, he said that project is still about a year away. In the meantime, there are some mitigation steps planned.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe talked to TxDOT about adding something in the right-of-way, so we have those out in the community, speed radar feedback signs,\u201d Mungia said. \u201cWe will also be having SAPD (San Antonio Police Department) do some enforcement.\u201d<\/p>\n

For residents like Rodriguez, the wait is the problem, and the proposed stopgaps aren\u2019t enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we need is speed bumps so that people can actually be forced to slow down,\u201d Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n

He said the repeated crashes have also meant repeated costs.<\/p>\n

\u201cI literally paid for a lot of this out of my own pocket,\u201d Rodriguez said. <\/p>\n

He added that finances are tight. <\/p>\n

\u201cMy retirement still hasn\u2019t kicked in, so I\u2019m like, the only reason I\u2019m barely hanging on is because of the VA, my VA check, that\u2019s it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

In the meantime, Rodriguez took his own steps, buying large rocks and placing them near his property. <\/p>\n

\u201cSo that if it happens again, another car stops here and doesn\u2019t hit our house and doesn\u2019t hurt anybody,\u201d Rodriguez said.<\/p>\n
