U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-San Antonio) said Monday that he will resign from Congress, preempting a potential expulsion vote by colleagues who\u2019ve been investigating his relationship with a former staffer who died by suicide.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a season for everything and God has a plan for us all,\u201d Gonzales wrote<\/a> on social media. \u201cWhen Congress returns tomorrow, I will file my retirement from office. It has been my privilege to serve the great people of Texas.\u201d<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what will happen to Gonzales\u2019 23rd Congressional District. <\/p>\n

He\u2019d already dropped his reelection bid<\/a> this November, setting up a race between Republican Brandon Herrera<\/a> and Democrat\u00a0Katy Padilla Stout<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Republicans have an extremely narrow U.S. House majority<\/a>, but Gonzales decision comes as Democrats are also losing a member at the same time.<\/p>\n

U.S. Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) is also resigning<\/a> amid allegations of sexual misconduct.<\/p>\n
