Police arrested a 25-year-old after a drone tracked an attempted break-in. Detectives say he may be tied to apartment burglaries and assault reports.<\/p>\n

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A 25-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after police say he was caught attempting to break into an apartment during a targeted surveillance operation tied to a string of burglaries targeting women.<\/p>\n

Jamille Dejuan Harris was taken into custody at the Puerto Del Mar Apartments. According to CCPD, Harris is charged with attempted burglary, tampering with evidence and evading arrest, in addition to two outstanding Nueces County warrants. CCPD PIO Travis Pace said further charges are likely.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Officials said \u00a0the arrest followed a coordinated surveillance operation led by the department\u2019s Special Victims Unit, with assistance from the Violent Crimes Unit, Gang Unit, Drone Team and Operations Division.<\/p>\n

Police said Monday the operation was one of several conducted in response to a series of early morning break-ins reported over the past 16 months at apartment complexes near Weber and Holly roads.<\/p>\n

According to CCPD, at about 4:40 a.m. Sunday, a drone operator observed a suspicious man walking between buildings at the complex.<\/p>\n

Police said the man removed his shoes, climbed over a fence into a patio area and attempted to open a sliding glass door for several minutes before leaving. The suspect was later seen peering into another apartment patio, according to CCPD.<\/p>\n

Officers responded and detained the man, who was later identified as Harris, police said.<\/p>\n

Jail records from the Nueces County Sheriff’s Office, dated Sunday, show Harris is also charged with assault causing bodily injury and burglary of a habitation. Bond was set at $25,000 on the assault charge and $10,000 and $3,500 on evading charges. The burglary of a habitation charge is listed without bond.<\/p>\n

CCPD said Monday that detectives executed a search warrant at Harris\u2019 apartment following his arrest. The apartment is located in the same complex where he was taken into custody.<\/p>\n

According to police, evidence recovered during that search has already linked Harris to at least one prior burglary, and detectives are continuing to pursue additional leads. CCPD officials said Monday that additional charges are possible.<\/p>\n

Police said Monday the investigation stems from a pattern of break-ins reported over the past 16 months, typically occurring between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.<\/p>\n

According to CCPD, the suspect in those cases appeared to target apartments occupied by single women, entering through unlocked windows or sliding glass doors.<\/p>\n

Police said several victims reported waking up to an intruder inside their bedrooms. In some cases, victims told investigators they were forcibly fondled or sexually assaulted before the suspect fled.<\/p>\n

CCPD previously described the suspect in those cases as a tall, thin Black or Hispanic man, often wearing a ski mask, dark hoodie and gloves.<\/p>\n

Police have not confirmed how many of the previous cases may be directly linked to Harris, but said Monday the investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
