LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A dryline moving across the region Tuesday will bring severe storm chances to areas off the Caprock, while critical fire danger threatens western portions of the region.<\/p>\n

The dryline will position itself roughly from Denver City to Plainview to Memphis by sunrise Tuesday, then begin moving eastward in the afternoon.<\/p>\n

East of the Caprock: Storm chances will increase Tuesday afternoon as the dryline moves into an area with deeper moisture and stronger instability. Conditions will be favorable for a few severe storms capable of producing large hail and damaging wind gusts. These storms are expected to develop relatively early in the afternoon, with strong upper-level winds pushing them eastward by early evening.<\/p>\n

West of the Caprock: Dry and windy conditions will dominate. Warm temperatures combined with winds gusting up to 40 mph will create critical fire danger for western portions of the viewing area that have not received beneficial rainfall over the past week. Areas in this zone should take precautions to prevent igniting any wildfires as they will spread rapidly in these conditions.<\/p>\n

The latest forecast trends suggest an increasing potential for supercell development Tuesday evening off the Caprock. If these supercells develop, they could pose a risk for tornadoes into the night. Atmospheric conditions appear favorable, with strong wind shear and moisture levels already in place across the region.<\/p>\n

Another slim chance for storms will continue through early Friday, mainly off the Caprock. Drier and cooler weather is expected to move in for the weekend, providing a break from the active weather pattern.<\/p>\n
