CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A longtime community staple is celebrating a major milestone this week.<\/p>\n
Good Shepherd\u2019s Corner Resale Shop, located near the Six Points area, is marking 55 years of service with a weeklong celebration filled with raffles, snacks, and special finds throughout the store.<\/p>\n
The nonprofit shop first opened its doors in the early 1970s, founded by a group of women from the Church of the Good Shepherd. Their goal was simple: create a mission-driven resale store that could give back to the community.<\/p>\n
More than five decades later, that mission is still going strong.<\/p>\n
Proceeds from store sales are used to provide grants to local organizations, including Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, Metro Ministries, and other important community causes.<\/p>\n
But for those involved, the impact goes far beyond financial support.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe build relationships with our consigners and our customers. We laugh with them, cry with them, and pray with them,\u201d said General Manager Suzie Watson. \u201cI would like to thank everyone who has helped this mission. This ministry is very important and based on volunteers.\u201d<\/p>\n
Community leaders also came out to show their support during the celebration, including State Representative Todd Hunter.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m just glad to see positive, good things,\u201d Hunter said. \u201cWe\u2019re showcasing what community groups can do for our community. I\u2019m here to encourage it \u2014 tell folks to come down to Good Shepherd\u2019s. Don\u2019t wait 55 years \u2014 come down now.\u201d<\/p>\n
