{"id":250711,"date":"2026-04-15T09:58:32","date_gmt":"2026-04-15T09:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/250711\/"},"modified":"2026-04-15T09:58:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-15T09:58:32","slug":"driver-sentenced-to-40-years-after-pleading-guilty-to-drunk-driving-crash-that-killed-2-people","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/250711\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver sentenced to 40 years after pleading guilty to drunk-driving crash that killed 2 people"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; 32-year-old Anthony Washington pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2024\/03\/28\/2-dead-after-wednesday-night-crash-1-arrested\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2024\/03\/28\/2-dead-after-wednesday-night-crash-1-arrested\/\">in connection with a deadly 2024 crash<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Washington was sentenced to 40 years on each count in the 137th District Court by Judge Trey McClendon on Tuesday afternoon. His sentence will run concurrently. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">On March 27, 2024, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash near Spur 327 and Milwaukee Avenue. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Driver, 20-year-old Blake Garza, and passenger, 18-year-old Naomi Harry, were traveling east in the 6500 block of Spur 327 when they collided with Washington, who was driving an SUV heading south on Milwaukee. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Harry died at the scene of the crash. Garza was taken to UMC where he later died.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cBlake was only 20 years old when his life was taken by a drunk driver,\u201d his mother said in a victim impact statement to the court. \u201c20 years old \u2014 with his whole life ahead of him. He should still be here. He should be building his future, chasing his dreams and living the life he deserved.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 KCBD.
