This is an update from a story\u00a0earlier in the week about an officer-involved shooting that left a suicidal man dead.<\/p>\n
The Lubbock <\/a>Police Department responded to a call at 8:38 p.m. on Monday about a suicidal person. Officers were told that Steven Chad Myers, 52, was on site, and had taken medication while drinking alcohol.<\/p>\n READ MORE: Candidates Running for Lubbock City Council<\/a><\/p>\n Police were also told that Myers had posted on social media earlier in the day that he was suicidal.<\/p>\n According to a press release, three-officers arrived at the scene and attempted to de-escalate the situation.<\/p>\n Three officers arrived on scene and began communicating with Myers in an attempt to de-escalate the The Lubbock Police Chief said the gun was later determined to be an air soft gun. situation. Myers was sitting in the driver\u2019s seat, while officers were standing in the driver\u2019s side door. After
more than 30 minutes of conversation with Myers, officers asked him to get out of the vehicle. Myers refused
and instead began reaching across the inside of the vehicle. The officers gave multiple commands to stop
reaching, as they all physically struggled with him, however, Myers did not comply and instead continued his
movement in reaching for what was identified as a handgun. It was at this time all three officers fired their
duty weapons.<\/p>\n
