Meanwhile, one of the fastest-growing cities in Texas is investing hundreds of millions to protect its residents from future water threats.

Fort Worth is putting nearly half a billion dollars toward a new water reclamation facility intent on supporting the growing western portion of the city. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) finally approved a permit for the Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility on August 12, 2025, seven years after the city first filed for the permit. Now Fort Worth has submitted plans with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), revealing the scope of the project.

A water reclamation facility cleans water that flows down drains in homes and businesses so it can be used for “beneficial purposes.” The City of Fort Worth highlighted examples of reclaimed water use, including irrigation water for lawns, landscaping, and athletic fields, as well as commercial and industrial use.

“At the Mary’s Creek plant, as much of the treated water as possible will be conveyed directly to customers as reclaimed water, with the remainder of the treated water being discharged into Mary’s Creek,” the City of Fort Worth writes. “The expanded use of reclaimed water is a critical part of Fort Worth’s future water supply.”

The Mary’s Creek Water Reclamation Facility will cover more than 94,000 square feet on Chapin Road in far west Fort Worth, almost to Aledo. Construction is expected to start on October 1 and be completed by February 1, 2030, according to the TDLR.

The entire project involves the construction of eight buildings, listed as “PTU, Operations, Solids, Chem, Bioreactor Electrical, EQ & PFS Pump and UV Elec/NAOCI,” in addition to parking spaces, totaling $464 million.

“We plan to advertise the project for construction bids at the end of this month,” the City of Fort Worth said in a statement to MySA. “The new facility will serve the growing western portions of Fort Worth. Building this facility, prevents building new or upsizing existing collection system lines through the central city to transport the flows 25 miles eastward to the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility.”

West Fort Worth is a massive area that includes the Fort Worth Botanical Gardens, Lake Worth, and the Fort Worth Cultural District, among more. CensusReporter.org shows the area has over 100,000 residents, rising to 116,000 when you group in all of Tarrant County.

Find it: 11091 Chapin Road, Fort Worth, TX 76108

Water has become the hottest topic in Texas to start the year, and we haven’t even entered the…

[6
821,820,30030,27,29,28
0":"post-250899","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-texas","8":"tag-mysabusiness","9":"tag-mysastaff","10":"tag-mysatx","11":"tag-texas","12":"tag-texas-headlines","13":"tag-texas-news
["GET
