Updates on his case status were not available Wednesday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gable&#8217;s lawsuit claims the city failed to adequately investigate and protect Gable after she accused Dantzer of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/trending\/article\/magnolia-mayor-dantzer-secretary-22084000.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">assault while they both attended an October conference<\/a> in Fort Worth. It also claims the city violated the Whistleblower Act when Gable, who was pregnant at the time,\u00a0reported the alleged assault and claims Gable suffered bodily injury from the assault and medical issues including the delivery of her baby two weeks early.<\/p>\n<p>Dantzer&#8217;s attorney, Douglas Atkinson,\u00a0released a March 18 statement denying the allegations. Since then, he has declined to comment further due to the ongoing criminal and civil matters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Dantzer maintains his innocence and looks forward to the opportunity to defend himself in the appropriate legal process. Mr. Dantzer remains dedicated to faithfully serving the citizens of the city of Magnolia,\u201d Atkinson said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Allegations from Gable&#8217;s lawsuit<\/p>\n<p>Gable&#8217;s lawsuit states began working for the city in August 2021 after losing her job due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and moved in with her parents.\u00a0Dantzer was a neighbor and longtime friend of Gable\u2019s parents, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a long-time neighbor and family friend, Mr. Dantzer occasionally made inappropriate sexual jokes and comments to Ms. Gable in the past. But when Ms. Gable became a city employee, Mr. Dantzer\u2019s unprofessional behavior quickly escalated,\u201d the lawsuit states. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Gable, who would return home for lunch daily, claims Dantzer began \u201cshowing up\u201d during that time frame and waiting uninvited inside her parents&#8217; home. She became uncomfortable and stopped returning home for lunch, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Gable took over as city secretary in late 2023. At city hall, Gable claims Dantzer would introduce her to visitors as \u201cthe city sexetary\u201d and often make \u201cunprofessional jokes and sexual comments,\u201d the lawsuit states. Gable she put a baby rattle on the door of her office, which adjoined\u00a0Dantzer\u2019s, so she would be alerted when he entered the room, according to the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">DONATION: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/trending\/article\/mackenzie-scott-meals-on-wheels-22205439.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">After Texas college donations in 2025,\u00a0MacKenzie Scott donates $70 million to Meals on Wheels<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Because Dantzer was her superior, Gable claims she \u201cfelt she had no choice but to endure Mr.\u00a0Dantzer\u2019s harassment if she wanted to keep her job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In October, Gable and Dantzer, along with three other city employees, stayed at the Omni Fort Worth Hotel for the annual Texas Municipal League conference, Gable said in a November formal complaint to the city.<\/p>\n<p>Gable alleged in that complaint that\u00a0Dantzer commented on her baggy pants and attempted to pull them down during a walk back to the hotel from a local restaurant. As the two approached the hotel valet area, Gable claims Dantzer asked\u00a0if her then-boyfriend, now husband, \u201cknows how to handle her.\u201d She alleges he then grabbed her by the neck, pushed her against a concrete pillar and choked her, according to the complaint filed with the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Gable said she pushed Dantzer away and went into the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>City officials requested a third-party investigation into Gable\u2019s human resources complaint, but then closed it, and the city took no further action. The Texas Rangers later confirmed they were investigating Gable&#8217;s allegations.<\/p>\n<p>Lawsuit from former HR director<\/p>\n<p>Gable\u2019s suit comes on the heels of a lawsuit from former Human Resources Director Kristy Powell, who alleged she experienced &#8220;harassing and retaliatory behavior&#8221; from other employees who were close with Dantzer while investigating Gable&#8217;s complaint. That lawsuit was filed in the Southern District of Texas on March 17 against the city and Dantzer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Powell alleges in the lawsuit that she was harassed over the unrelated terminations of two other city employees prior to Gable\u2019s complaint.
