It’s been a long wait- since 2024<\/a> we’ve kept an eye on the former Texas Roadhouse location (4810 S Loop 289) for a new restaurant to arrive, and now we finally know when Umiya is set to open, May 1st.<\/p>\n

What Will Umiya Be?<\/p>\n

Umiya will be an all-you-can-eat concept offering sushi, hotpot, appetizers, tempura, hibachi, teriyaki, and more. Dinner will be about $32 for adults and about $17 for kids (free for 2 and under). There is a 2-hour time limit, and wasted food could incur an extra charge (this is a standard practice at most AYCE sushi places to prevent waste).<\/p>\n

It appears that menu items will be available for purchase to-go<\/a>, with each item priced like a non-AYCE restaurant. I was unable to find if per-item ordering will be available for dine-in.<\/p>\n

Other Recent Asian Additions To The Lubbock Landscape<\/p>\n

Obsessed with Asian food like I am? Other recently opened Asian restaurants include Hokkaido, which has sushi, ramen, bento boxes, and more, located in Kingsgate Center North (4210 82nd St #230). Tokoyo Cafe (6620 Milwaukee Ave #700) is also fairly new, offering Dim Sum, poke bowls, sushi, bento, and more.\u00a0Rolls N Bowls (6109 Slide Rd) offers beef bowls, noodles, poke bowls, fried rice, and more.<\/p>\n

If you like Thai food,\u00a0Thai Pattaya (4809 34th St) is a new spot for curries, Pad Thai, and other traditional Thai fare. For Vietnamese, SN Bahn Mi (5815 82nd St Unit 150) offers Bahn Mi sandwiches (of course) along with croissants, K Dogs, and a wide variety of appetizers and pastries. For a fun treat experience, Kokomo (217 82nd St., Suite 106) offers an extensive tea\/ coffee drink menu, KDogs, mochi donuts, and Asian-inspired desserts.<\/p>\n
