Expect\u00a0to see an increase in emergency personnel at a major Texas airport for one day only.<\/p>\n

A “full-scale emergency exercise” at the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport<\/a> will be coupled with an excess law enforcement presence on Wednesday, April 15, airport officials shared in a Wednesday morning social media post.<\/a> The exercise will come with an uptick in emergency activity in and around the airport’s facilities and property as part of the drill.<\/p>\n

The reason behind Wednesday’s emergency preparedness exercise? The scheduled drills come as part of a federally issued mandate, AUS\u00a0leaders further noted in a follow-up social media post. Every 36 months, airports across the United States<\/a> are required by the federal government to engage in these drills and related emergency activities to “help our teams and community partners stay prepared to\u00a0respond quickly and safely” in the event of an emergency down the road.<\/p>\n

“Any emergency activity you see is part of a planned exercise,” AUS concluded the post. “Thanks for helping us keep AUS prepared.”<\/p>\n

In an emailed statement to MySA, an airport spokesperson said they did not have any additional details available to share at this time regarding the pre-planned exercise.\u00a0<\/p>\n

No flight disruptions are planned as part of the exercise, with FlightAware data revealing no flights had been canceled within the past 24 hours as of early Wednesday morning.
