One of the biggest leaps in everyday technology is happening right here in Lubbock<\/a>\u2014and somehow, almost nobody seems to notice.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re not talking about something futuristic or experimental. This is real, it\u2019s working, and it\u2019s sitting right in front of people\u2026 while they stand in line pretending it doesn\u2019t exist.<\/p>\n

There are a few things I like to buy in bulk, so every now and then I grab a membership to Sam’s Club when they run a deal. I only go a handful of times a year, but I load up on paper goods and pantry staples and call it good.<\/p>\n

The strategy is simple: buy what you\u2019ll actually use, skip the nonsense, and get out.<\/p>\n

That last part used to be the problem.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve ever been there on a Saturday, you know the chaos\u2014packed aisles, overflowing carts, and checkout lines that feel endless.<\/p>\n

This past weekend was no different. Every register open, self-checkouts slammed, and people just\u2026waiting.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, I walked right past all of it.<\/p>\n

The secret is the \u201cScan & Go\u201d feature on their app. You scan your items as you shop, hit \u201cSlide to pay,\u201d confirm, and you\u2019re done. You get a digital receipt and head straight for the exit.<\/p>\n

No conveyor belt.
No awkward small talk.
No waiting behind someone price-checking bulk snacks.<\/p>\n

And here\u2019s the wild part\u2014you just walk out. Sensors overhead, no alarms, no hassle. It feels wrong the first time\u2026like you missed a step. But you didn\u2019t\u2014you\u2019re just ahead of the curve.<\/p>\n

It at least seemed like I was the only one who used this express lane to consumer heaven.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s not just there. There\u2019s already a similar self-serve setup at Grace Clinic\u2014grab, scan, and go. No cashier, no waiting.<\/p>\n

This is the direction everything is moving: faster, smoother, less friction.<\/p>\n

And for whatever reason, a lot of people just haven\u2019t made the jump yet.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s fine by me.<\/p>\n
