Entire cities seem to descend upon grand openings and others use the opportunity to make unalterable life decisions. But once and while, strange as it may sound to fans, a Buc-ee’s location will sometimes close.

No really, it happens. That appears to be the fate of one in Port Lavaca, Texas, which opened in 2000. And it’s being turned into a 7-Eleven. That’s almost blasphemous.

According to the Victoria Advocate, the Buc-ee’s in Port Lavaca south of Houston is expected to close sometime soon and get converted into a 7-Eleven with a Laredo Taco Company, so there will be tacos instead of nuggets and brisket sandwiches. Which may not be the greatest trade-off.

The news was confirmed to the Victoria Advocate by Derrick Smith, director of the City of Port Lavaca Building and Standards Commission Board. He told them that “I did get an email from a sign company, on March 16, stating that Buc-ee’s is being rebranded as 7-Eleven with a Laredo Taco.”

Chron reached out to Buc-ee’s for additional details and will update the story when we hear back. There’s no word yet on a timeline for the changeover, but it’s been rumored for a while, with locals fearing the worst.

“That’s going to suck if they close permanently!” wrote one concerned commenter on Facebook.

It’s certainly a rare occurrence, and it’s difficult to find any evidence of a Buc-ee’s actually ever closing. One imagines when it does occur the beaver-themed travel center just vanishes instantly in a cloud of red smoke, to never be seen again.

To be fair, this is one of the earlier, smaller format locations of Buc-ee’s, so it’s possible they may be moving to another, bigger space in the area down the line. But this hasn’t been confirmed. If that does turn out to be the case, they’ll probably make it the greatest Buc-ee’s in America as revenge for losing out to this 7-Eleven. Hell hath no fury like a beaver scorned.

We’ve been awash in news of Buc-ee’s openings the past few weeks, and all the chaos each one…

[7
85765,2466,1704,85744,56,58,57
0":"post-251649","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-houston","8":"tag-chronbrands","9":"tag-chronculture","10":"tag-chronstaff","11":"tag-chrontexas","12":"tag-houston","13":"tag-houston-headlines","14":"tag-houston-news
["GET
