Cluck, M.D., whose vision and leadership helped redefine the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/news\/local\/tarrant-county\/arlington-council-oks-tax-breaks-for-gm-expansion\/287-302001363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">city\u2019s skyline and economy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Cluck, who served as mayor from 2003 to 2015 after two terms on the City Council, died April\u202f14 at the age of\u202f87, the city said.<\/p>\n<p>He is best remembered for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/sports\/nfl\/cowboys\/emotional-jerry-jones-dedicates-att-stadium-atrium-in-honor-of-former-mayor\/287-22322533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">spearheading the effort to bring the Dallas Cowboys to Arlington<\/a>, a dynamic move that led to the 2009 opening of AT&amp;T\u202fStadium. His administration also guided the creation of the Arlington Highlands shopping center, the Viridian community, and the revitalization of Downtown Arlington.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArlington has lost a true visionary,\u201d Mayor Jim Ross said. \u201cDr.\u202fRobert Cluck didn\u2019t just lead our city; he reimagined what it could be. His ability to build partnerships and see the community\u2019s future potential fundamentally changed our trajectory.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Born in Cisco in 1939, Cluck graduated from Southern Methodist University (SMU) and earned his medical degree from UT Southwestern. He also served in the U.S.\u202fAir Force during the Vietnam era and practiced as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Arlington for more than two decades.<\/p>\n<p>In\u202f2011, he received the President\u2019s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition Community Leadership Award.<\/p>\n<p>Arlington honored him with the opening of a 73.8-acre park called Dr. Robert Cluck Linear Park in 2011. Then in 2015, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfaa.com\/article\/sports\/nfl\/cowboys\/emotional-jerry-jones-dedicates-att-stadium-atrium-in-honor-of-former-mayor\/287-22322533\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Cowboys&#8217; owner Jerry Jones named the Atrium at AT&amp;T Stadium in his honor<\/a>. He also earned the inaugural Arlington Visionary Award in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a more vibrant, competitive, and world-class city today because of his bold leadership and belief in Arlington.
