HOUSTON \u2013 A $270 million development now underway in Houston\u2019s Upper Kirby area is expected to bring hundreds of jobs and new economic activity to one of the city\u2019s busiest corridors.<\/p>\n
Construction recently began at 2811 Kirby Drive, where developers plan to build a 38-story tower featuring luxury apartments, office space and new restaurants.<\/p>\n
The project, led by Southern Land Company, is expected to create about 500 jobs across construction, hospitality and office work once completed, according to the company.<\/p>\n
For some workers, the development represents a meaningful opportunity.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to take pride in the project,\u201d said Arian Salazar, a paid construction intern. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be very beneficial for the city of Houston and we\u2019re going to supply a lot of people with a lot of jobs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Construction is already bringing workers on site, with additional opportunities expected as the project expands into retail, dining and office spaces.<\/p>\n
The development is also expected to add new restaurants, shopping and commercial space to the Upper Kirby area, contributing to continued growth in central Houston.<\/p>\n
Located near River Oaks, the project sits in a high-traffic area known for its mix of residential, retail and business activity.<\/p>\n
The project is expected to take about three years to complete, according to a construction worker on site.<\/p>\n
As work moves forward, the development is positioned to play a role in Houston\u2019s ongoing growth, bringing new jobs and amenities to the area.<\/p>\n
