LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Michael Anderson, his wife Jasmine, and their baby boy Brodie can officially move into their brand new home.<\/p>\n
Michael is a Lubbock native. He had just started fourth grade when the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks happened and remembers coming home after learning the United States had been attacked.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe went to the babysitter and I was watching the news and I thought it was a movie until I realized it was real life,\u201d Michael said, \u201cand then ever since then, I watched Bush\u2019s speech and all that, so that\u2019s when I made my mind I was going to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
At just nine years old, Michael knew what he wanted to do and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2010. Over the next few years, Michael would work as a tactical switching operator, spending time in Afghanistan, Kuwait and Dubai.<\/p>\n
After he was injured during service, Michael was honorably discharged. Jasmine said it\u2019s a lot to see her husband in pain.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s had seven surgeries on his elbow, back surgery, we\u2019re having a hip surgery in December,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
That\u2019s where West Texas Hero Homes comes in. The organization spent the last six months making a new home perfect for Michael\u2019s needs, while also giving Brodie a place to grow up in.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhenever they would bring Brodie into the house during construction, he would actually run right into his room and he knew somehow that that was his room,\u201d builder Jason Nesloney said, \u201cso he would go there first as he would walk through that door.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat a unique story for a young man to grow up with and be able to look back on his dad\u2019s service and be able to talk about that,\u201d builder James Jordan said. \u201cHopefully it will be a testimony for him one day.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michael and Jasmine are grateful for West Texas Hero Homes for providing them this opportunity, and while Michael admits it\u2019s hard for veterans to put their pride aside, he encourages others who can apply to do so because it can do so much for your family.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe only reason I did it was because we were pregnant with Brodie,\u201d Michael said, \u201cso I was like okay, let me put all that aside and let\u2019s give him a nice home.\u201d<\/p>\n
