{"id":252128,"date":"2026-04-16T06:04:16","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T06:04:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/252128\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T06:04:16","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T06:04:16","slug":"airport-boulevard-zilker-pedestrian-improvements-3-central-austin-transportation-updates-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/252128\/","title":{"rendered":"Airport Boulevard, Zilker pedestrian improvements: 3 Central Austin transportation updates to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tHere are some ongoing and completed transportation projects to check out in the Central Austin area.<\/p>\n<p>Completed projects<\/p>\n<p>Airport Boulevard Shared-Use Path<\/p>\n<p>Project: The city of Austin completed a new shared-use path along the west side of Airport Boulevard between East 51st Street and Middle Fiskville Road.<\/p>\n<p>Update: The project reached completion in early April.<\/p>\n<p>Zilker Multimodal Improvements<\/p>\n<p>Project: The city added a new 0.7-mile shared-use path around the <a href=\"https:\/\/zilkergarden.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Zilker Botanical Garden<\/a> and enhanced bus stops as well as a crosswalk signal and crosswalk across Barton Springs Road at the Botanical Garden.<\/p>\n<p>Update: City officials celebrated the completion of the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early April.<\/p>\n<p>Timeline: 2019-spring 2026Cost: $2.8 millionFunding source: city of Austin bonds, council District 8, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.capmetro.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CapMetro<\/a> and Zilker Botanical GardenOngoing projects<\/p>\n<p>Burnet Road Corridor<\/p>\n<p>Project: <\/p>\n<p>Construction work is underway on Burnet Road from Koenig Lane to MoPac, including the realignment of Burnet Lane at Burnet Road, traffic signal upgrades, shared-use paths, crosswalk signals and drainage improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Update: City officials broke ground on the corridor in early March.<\/p>\n<p>Timeline: March-late 2028 to early 2029Cost: $59.5 millionFunding source: 2016 Mobility Bond<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/uploads\/images\/2026\/04\/15\/419850.jpg\" class=\"include_body\" onerror=\"this.src=\"\/>City of Austin officials broke ground on improvements to safety, mobility and connectivity along Burnet Road in early March.
