SAN ANTONIO – Eleven dogs are now in the care of San Antonio Animal Care Services after being found living in severe, unsanitary conditions at a home on the city\u2019s west side.<\/p>\n
The dogs were removed around noon from a property near Vera Cruz and Southwest 19th Street, where crews found urine and feces throughout the home. The animals are currently receiving veterinary care.<\/p>\n
The situation occurs during April, which is recognized as Animal Cruelty Awareness Month.<\/p>\n
With the sudden intake, the shelter is urgently asking for help from the community. Emergency fosters are needed to make room not only for these dogs, but for dozens more currently in the shelter and those still coming in. Staff say they are working to find temporary homes for up to 84 dogs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have hundreds of dogs in the shelter,\u201d the staff said.<\/p>\n
The shelter is asking for a three-week foster commitment. Officials say the process is quick and designed to get pets into homes the same day. Residents can simply show up, scan a QR code, fill out a short form, and staff will help match them with a dog that fits their home and lifestyle.<\/p>\n
All supplies are provided through the foster program, including food, crates, leashes, medical care, vaccinations, and microchips. Training support is also available if needed.<\/p>\n

Residents can visit the shelter at 4710 State Highway 151 through 7 p.m., or return the following day during the same hours, to foster a pet in need.
