The Houston Texans<\/a>‘ 25th season as a franchise in 2026 will feature a blast from the past.<\/p>\n

The building known for the last 12 years as NRG Stadium<\/a> will receive a new name before next season, reverting back to its original name, Reliant Stadium. The name change was approved by the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

NRG signage will be taken down before the stadium hosts 2026 FIFA World Cup<\/a> matches this summer, a period in which the building will be referred to as “Houston Stadium<\/a>.” Reliant signage will then be added in August before the Texans’ 2026 season begins in September.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reliant Energy, a subsidiary of NRG Energy, released a video Wednesday announcing the stadium name change.<\/p>\n

“A lot of folks call this place H-Town. But we call it home,” the video’s narrator said. “We know Houston never let go [of the old stadium name], and neither did we. Reliant Stadium is, once again, Reliant Stadium.<\/p>\n

“Welcome back, it’s good to be home.”<\/p>\n

Reliant purchased 30-year naming rights for the Texans’ stadium\u2014which is also home to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo<\/a>\u2014in 2002. The building’s name was changed to NRG Stadium in 2014, though many in Houston still referred to the building by its original name. NRG commissioned a study this year regarding the two names, asking survey participants which name they preferred. Reliant Stadium was the winner, receiving a whopping 90 percent of the votes.<\/p>\n

“Fans have told us what this place means to them. For many, it’s always been Reliant Stadium,” NRG executive Brad Bentley said in a statement Wednesday. “We heard them loud and clear. Reliant Stadium is back.”<\/p>\n

2026 marks Year 25 for the Texans in their current home stadium.
