SAN ANTONIO \u2013 A teacher at Hill Country College Preparatory High School who was shot by a 15-year-old student<\/a> has been released from a San Antonio hospital, according to the Comal County Sheriff\u2019s Office. <\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds confirmed to KSAT the teacher, who has not been identified, was released from the hospital as of last week. <\/p>\n

Authorities believe the student shot himself after shooting the teacher on March 30. The sheriff\u2019s office said its investigation remains ongoing.<\/p>\n

In a video posted to Facebook on Wednesday, Comal Independent School District Superintendent John E. Chapman III said since authorities continue to investigate the shooting, there are details the district is unable to share. <\/p>\n

In the video, Chapman said Comal ISD is not releasing the teacher\u2019s name and \u201cwill not do so at this time.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cShe has specific privacy protections in place under her employment file and we are honoring those,\u201d Chapman said. \u201cWhat I can tell you is that she continues to recover and she is surrounded by the love of this community every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n

The superintendent added that the district will also not release information on the student.<\/p>\n

Chapman said students are protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and that those protections do not expire upon the death of a minor.<\/p>\n

Earlier this week, the Comal County District Attorney\u2019s Office asked the Texas Attorney General\u2019s Office whether the county has to release the student\u2019s identity<\/a>. <\/p>\n

KSAT Investigates has submitted requests to multiple agencies<\/a>, including the Comal County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Comal County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, for the student\u2019s identity since the shooting.<\/p>\n

Chapman said he will share details in the coming days about a Comal ISD safety and security task force made up of parents, staff and community members within the district.<\/p>\n

The task force will hold a series of community-driven meetings to gather input, examine current practices and provide recommendations to the district\u2019s safety and security committee, he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a short-term fix, this is a long-term commitment,\u201d Chapman said.<\/p>\n
