The Padres could need a catcher today.<\/p>\n
Good thing Rodolfo Duran is swinging the bat well.<\/p>\n
The 28-year-old catcher hit his third homer and drove in five runs, leading Triple-A El Paso to a 14-1 win<\/a> at Round Rock on Wednesday.<\/p>\n Duran also singled in a two-hit game that lifted his batting line to .227\/.340\/.432. Duran was pulled from the game in the bottom of the ninth, after Freddy Fermin exited in San Diego after taking a foul ball off his mask.<\/p>\n \u201cNot a concussion,\u201d Padres manager Craig Stammen said after the Padres\u2019 7-6 win<\/a> over the Mariners. \u201cTook him back, tested him, you know, no concussion stuff going on, but just a head contusion. Just feels like he got hit in the head, you know. But luckily, it\u2019s not a concussion at this point. You know, all the tests came back negative. So it\u2019s a good thing for us going forward, good thing for Freddy But we had to take him out of the game just as precaution. Just gotten hit in the head too many times (lately).\u201d<\/p>\n The Padres have two catchers on the 40-man roster: Fermin and Luis Campusano.<\/p>\n Duran paired 16 homers with an .847 OPS while splitting catching duties with Campusano last year at Triple-A El Paso. That earned Duran a non-roster invitation to spring training, where hit .250\/.419\/.667 with three homers in 16 Cactus League games.<\/p>\n Designated hitter Pablo Reyes (.843 OPS) hit his first homer and left fielder Samad Taylor (.768 OPS) hit his second homer.<\/p>\n First baseman Jose Miranda (.622 OPS) went 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI and center fielder Carlos Rodriguez (.774 OPS) drove in three runs on three hits, including a double.<\/p>\n Right-hander Logan Gillaspie (1-1, 7.20 ERA) earned the win with four strikeouts over three no-hit innings in relief.
