ARLINGTON, Texas \u2013 The postseason has arrived for UT Arlington women’s tennis and the Mavericks are looking to extend their season in the\u00a0 2026 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament. The four-team tournament begins with two semifinals on Friday and culminates with the championship match at 10 a.m. Saturday.<\/p>\n
UTA (6-13) was given the No. 4 seed and will face No. 1 Tarleton State (15-7) at 10 a.m. Friday in the first semifinal. The winner will face the victor of the second semifinal between No. 2 Abilene Christian (8-13) and No. 3 Utah Tech (11-11) in the championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n
All three matches will be held at the Arlington Tennis Center in Arlington. The winner of the WAC tournament will represent the conference at the NCAA tournament.<\/p>\n
UTA is coming off a 6-1 victory in its regular season finale over the Collin College Cougars. The Mavericks won all of their matches in straight sets, the lone loss coming on singles Court 4.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The win continued an upward trend for UTA. After starting the spring 2-8 in dual matches, the Mavericks won four of their final nine bouts.<\/p>\n
This will be the second match between UTA and Tarleton State this season. UTA leads the all-time series 6-4.<\/p>\n
Scouting Tarleton State
\nThe Texans wrapped up the regular season at 15-7. Tarleton State won seven of its last nine matches of the spring. That stretch included wins over the other three teams in the WAC tournament field by a combined score of 15-1.\u00a0<\/p>\n
UTA was the only team in the WAC tournament to pick up a point against the Texans. Tasnime Ahamout<\/a> defeated Tarleton’s Duru Kuscu 6-4, 6-2 on singles Court 6. The Texans \u2014 however \u2014 went on to win the March 13 bout 4-1 at the UTA Tennis Center, kick-starting a six-match winning streak.<\/p>\n Four players for Tarleton State reached double-digit victories in dual match singles play. Aya Ishii led the way with a 16-3 total record on courts one and two, including a 13-2 mark on Court 2. Ximena Morales is close behind with a 15-3 record, holding a 10-2 mark on Court 4 as well as working to a 5-1 record on Court 3.<\/p>\n Emma Persson is 11-4 competing on courts two and three while Marissa Manetti has held down courts four, five and six with a 10-2 record. Maria Castano has been the Texans primary competitor in the No. 1 spot, where she is 9-5 this spring.\u00a0<\/p>\n Live stats for UTA’s semifinal match can be found on Statbroadcast<\/a>.
