This spring, Plano ISD will use AI to voice names at graduation ceremonies, which has drawn the ire of a number of students. <\/p>\n
The district says that this plan will improve accuracy and create a more seamless experience for its graduates. In an email to parents, the district wrote, \u201cNames matter, and we want your big moment to feel personal and accurate.\u201d<\/p>\n
Avery Cousins, however, a senior at Plano Senior High, says the change is \u201chard to accept\u201d as her graduation date approaches.<\/p>\n
She told WFAA<\/a>, \u201cIt really sunk in how wild this decision was. There is such a distinct human factor to having somebody who knows you and contributed to your education say your name while you walk.\u201d<\/p>\n Some students like the idea. Senior Holden Schmidt said, \u201cI think it’s very cool how the technology is coming along.\u201d Senior Bridgette Cruz added, \u201cI’d rather have my name said correctly at graduation…especially since it’s such a big day for me.\u201d<\/p>\n Avery has started a petition to replace the AI voice with a human announcer.
