LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A generous donation is helping women and children within the Lubbock community feel safe and get back on their feet.<\/p>\n
As part of her \u201cGo Give Award,\u201d Jaci Baccus helped Mary Kay donate $20,000 to the women\u2019s shelter in Lubbock.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was an incredible honor to receive the award as a whole, and then to find out as a surprise that the grant was going to go to the shelter right here in my hometown was such a cool thing to get to be a part of,\u201d Baccus, an independent senior sales director with Mary Kay, said.<\/p>\n
The donation will go toward kitchen renovations, which will help the facility grow, modernize and welcome in more women as needed.<\/p>\n
The coordinator for community education said renovations like these are important to make women and children feel more comfortable.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s about preserving the dignity and trying to make it feel as comfortable not just for the lady but for the kids as well. To have pride and know when they open up that door to know that they\u2019re going to be safe. This makes it very clean and almost like a new place to be and so I think that\u2019s very important to their healing as well,\u201d Steven Garcia, coordinator of community education at Women\u2019s Protective Services, said.<\/p>\n
Garcia said the best way people can help the shelter is through donations. One of the biggest needs is toiletries.<\/p>\n
