COLLEGE STATION \u2013 The No. 10 Texas A&M men’s tennis team avenged a regular season defeat with a 4-2 takedown of the No. 22 Vanderbilt Commodores in the second round of the 2026 SEC Championship on Thursday at the Mitchell Tennis Center.

\nWith the victory, the 5-seed Aggies advance to the SEC quarterfinals for a rematch with the 4-seed Oklahoma Sooners at 6 p.m. on Friday. The No. 8 Sooners handed the Aggies a 4-1 setback in the regular season finale last Sunday.

\n“Oklahoma is very good in singles and doubles and we’re going to have to play better if we’re going to beat them this time,” Aggie head coach Steve Denton<\/a> said. “I think they were just sharper than us (on Sunday). They took it to us in doubles and we never really caught up.”

\nThursday’s win avenged the Commodores’ 4-3 win at the Mitchell Tennis Center on the first day of March, while improving the Aggies’ record to 18-8. The Commodores’ run at the SEC Tournament ended as their record fell to 17-12.

\nThe Aggies were in control early as they grabbed the doubles point with victories at court 1 and court 3, and were leading on the third court when the point was clinched. Junior Lathan Skrobarcek<\/a> and freshman Markus Molder<\/a> took care of business on court 3 with a 6-3 victory and the No. 5-ranked tandem of senior Togan Tokac<\/a> and sophomore Theo Papamalamis<\/a> cruised to a 6-3 victory on court 1.

\nOnce in singles, the Commodores initially had the Aggies on their heels as they grabbed first sets on three courts and earned a pair of straight-set victories on court 3 and court 6 to take a 2-1 advantage. The Aggies roared back with Tokac leveling the score at 2-all with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 line on his belated Senior Day.

\n“I think we relaxed a little bit (after doubles) in thinking we were going to run through those guys and that just wasn’t the case,” Denton said. “Vanderbilt is too good of a team and has too many good players. They tested us here and I’m actually glad for the test.”

\nJunior Kholo Montsi<\/a> gave the Aggies their third win with a gutty 7-6(3), 6-4 win over Hoyoung Roh at court 2. \u00a0Montsi, the transfer from Oklahoma, was down 3-5 in the first set before rattling off three straight games to force the first-set tiebreaker.

\nPapamalamis clinched the victory with a 6-4, 7-6(4) win over Pablo Martinez Gomez at the No. 1 line. With the match looking like it would go to a third set, the Frenchman rallied from a 3-5 deficit to force the tiebreaker and then rallied from a 3-1 hole to win the breaker, 7-4.

\n“I kept fighting and I’m very happy to finish the match in two sets and get the clinch,” Papamalamis said. “I played a pretty good first set and I was serving better. But at the beginning of the second set my serve was less aggressive and I had some double faults. I feel like I was too passive, but I was able to figure that out and that’s what made the difference.”
