But that does not necessarily mean no incidents occurred.

The Austin Police Department logged two safety concerns involving a Tesla robotaxi in early March, according to a city dashboard.

In its prior update, Tesla reported one crash, bringing its total to 15 since launching its robotaxi service in June with a fleet of fewer than 50 vehicles.

The monthly crash updates to federal regulators require companies to report a variety of incidents involving automated driving systems, including incidents on public roads, those involving another vehicle, objects or when property damage is expected to exceed $1,000. Reports are due by the 15th of the following month, and NHTSA notes the data may not capture all recent incidents.

Tesla has also faced scrutiny over its crash reporting. In March, federal regulators opened an engineering analysis into its system, citing concerns that internal data and labeling limitations could lead to underreporting.

The company did not respond to a request for comment.

Of the six new incidents Waymo reported, four occurred in February and two in March.

In one March crash, a Waymo vehicle stopped at a red light was struck by an SUV entering a right-turn slip lane.

In a February crash, a Waymo entered an intersection after cross traffic cleared but a pickup truck at a stop sign moved forward and struck it. Two of the four passengers were not wearing seat belts. Austin police are investigating both incidents.

Waymo said the recent crashes are minor and are often the result of other drivers’ actions.

Beyond Austin, collisions with Waymos are happening in other Texas cities as Waymo has also expanded its operations in recent weeks. In March, Waymo reported a collision with a passenger car in San Antonio and another with an SUV in Dallas.

In late March, Zoox Inc. also began testing its purpose-built autonomous robotaxis in Austin. While those vehicles are not yet reflected in federal crash reports, Zoox reported a March collision involving a mapping vehicle, in which another driver struck it head-on. No injuries were reported.

Tesla Inc. reported no new robotaxi crashes in its latest filings to federal regulators, covering incidents through mid-March.…

[11
132,134,133,5454
0":"post-254066","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-austin","8":"tag-austin","9":"tag-austin-headlines","10":"tag-austin-news","11":"tag-saen_share
["GET
