A strong cold front is set to sweep across Texas this weekend<\/a>, bringing a sharp temperature drop and an April freeze threat to parts of the Texas Panhandle.<\/p>\n

Amarillo is under a Freeze Watch late Friday through Saturday morning, according to the local National Weather Service (NWS) Office.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

“Saturday will be a colder day, as early morning lows are expected to be below freezing in the northwest Panhandles and in the 30s for most of the rest of the Panhandles,” the NWS Amarillo Office wrote in its outlook.<\/p>\n

Forecasters anticipate temperatures to dip to a low of around 37 degrees on Friday, and drop even lower on Saturday- to around 35 degrees.<\/p>\n

Along with the cold, the region will also be dealing with wind. The southeast Panhandle could see wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour on Friday, lightening up on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

“Saturday night we’ll have to keep an eye on as well, given the light winds and the cold airmass still overhead\u2026we could have another round of freeze and frost concerns,” the NWS Amarillo Office wrote.<\/p>\n

In Southeast Texas, the cold front is expected to arrive late Friday and early Saturday, reaching Houston by Saturday afternoon, according to the NWS Houston-Galveston Office.<\/p>\n

“The severe weather risk is low, but will continue to keep an eye on potential excessive rainfall,” forecasters wrote in their outlook. “Pockets of heavy rain are possible, leading (to) minor street flooding in urban, low-lying and poor drainage areas.”<\/p>\n

Temperatures in Houston are expected to hit a low around 58 degrees on Saturday night and a low of around 59 on Sunday. A chance of thunderstorms is expected Saturday through Wednesday.<\/p>\n
