The Devil’s Triangle … or Angel’s Triangle depending on who you are talking to … is a particular section of northeast El Paso with a troubled past. A troubled present as well some would say.<\/p>\n
It’s an area roughly defined as being a right\u00a0triangle<\/a> formed by Dyer Street, the Patriot Freeway, (aka US-54), and Hondo Pass.<\/p>\n For years, it was populated by nice folks but also had a seemingly, unusually large number of criminals. Gang members, drug dealers and prostitutes were not hard to find and crime rates were high.<\/p>\n How Did The Devils Triangle Get Its Name?<\/p>\n Dominated by apartment complexes and older duplexes or single-family homes with a high poverty rate among its residents, and once notorious for crime, drug trafficking and prostitution, it was known as the Devil’s Triangle before being officially renamed at a meeting of its residents in the 1990s.[2]<\/a>\u00a0and is still sometimes referred to as such, or as the Triangle. – wikipedia<\/a><\/p>\n Why Was The Devils Triangle Renamed?<\/p>\n In the early 90’s, a group of “triangle” residents and the El Paso Police Department teamed up to clean up the area and polish its image.<\/p>\n The program involved training officers and the community alike to start referring to the neighborhood as the Angel’s Triangle,\u00a0and involved community participation in neighborhood clean-ups.\u00a0Within three years of implementing the program, there was a 35% decrease in all crimes in the area. –\u00a0wikipedia<\/a><\/p>\n Today, it still has a reputation but there are other areas of the 915 that are just as bad, if not worse. (Some say the real Devil’s Triangle is on the east side<\/a>.) No matter where you go, you’ll find something bad but you certainly won’t find as much “bad” in the Angels Triangle as you would have back in the Devils Triangle days.
