{"id":254856,"date":"2026-04-17T22:46:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T22:46:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/254856\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T22:46:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T22:46:11","slug":"allen-moves-forward-with-5-2m-water-line-replacement-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/254856\/","title":{"rendered":"Allen moves forward with $5.2M water line replacement project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tWater and sewer lines within the Oak Hill subdivision will be replaced, Allen officials said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/government\/city_council\/index.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allen City Council<\/a> approved a $5.2 million contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/constructionjandl.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">J&amp;L Construction<\/a> for the Oak Hill neighborhood water line replacement project at an <a href=\"https:\/\/actv.org\/internetchannel\/show\/4305?seekto=3159&amp;site=1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">April 14 meeting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The specifics<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofallen.org\/government\/city_meeting_agendas_minutes.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">project <\/a>includes replacing approximately 5,785 linear feet of water lines within the Oak Hill subdivision and replacing about 3,750 linear feet of sewer lines along Jupiter Road, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p>Replacing outdated materials will increase water and sewer capacity, Allen Director of Engineering Chris Flanigan said.<\/p>\n<p>The project also includes:<\/p>\n<p>Removal of dead or overgrown trees between the curb and sidewalkEvaluation and repairs of sidewalk and roadway panelsInstallation of new solar power streetlightsMedian landscaping along Bethany DriveAddition of a new neighborhood sign at the intersection of Jupiter Road and Bethany Drive\u201cWe\u2019re taking advantage of timing here to implement some neighborhood enhancement projects with this utility project,\u201d Flanigan said. \u201cWhile we\u2019re already exposing these residents to one contractor, [let\u2019s] go ahead and get it all done at once.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cost<\/p>\n<p>The project is funded through 2023 voter-approved bond funds and the Water and Sewer fund, according to city documents.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776465970_138_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>The city received a bid from J&amp;L Construction for about $4.89 million with a 10% contingency fee, which brings the total project cost to just over $5.23 million, per city documents.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776465971_790_thumbnail.jpeg\" width=\"100%\" alt=\"visualization\"\/>Looking ahead<\/p>\n<p>Construction is expected to take 231 days, beginning in May and wrapping up in April 2027, Flanigan said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Water and sewer lines within the Oak Hill subdivision will be replaced, Allen officials said.
