SAN ANTONIO – The smell of food wafts through the air, mixed with the sound of live music echoing across the crowd.<\/p>\n
Fiesta de los Reyes is back on \u2014 and people are ready to celebrate.<\/p>\n
\u201cI love it, I love the vibes, the music, all the stages they have, and of course the food,\u201d said Anthony Vargas.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think every year it\u2019s something different,\u201d said Krystal Rosales.<\/p>\n
But this year, along with the familiar sights and sounds, come some noticeable changes \u2014 especially when it comes to security.<\/p>\n
Mesh coverings have been added to fencing around the event, and a new specialized emergency response team is now stationed at all city-sponsored Fiesta events. Officials say the team will be able to respond instantly in case of an emergency, helping keep attendees safe.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also a new cost to consider.<\/p>\n
Starting Sunday, visitors will have to pay a five-dollar fee during peak hours to help cover the added security measures. The move has sparked mixed reactions among festivalgoers.<\/p>\n
\u201cI don\u2019t believe in charging people to have a good time,\u201d said Michael Cavanaugh.<\/p>\n
\u201cDo you think it\u2019s worth the five dollars?\u201d we asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s worth the extra five dollars. It\u2019s not that much in return for your safety,\u201d said Dylan Delagarza.<\/p>\n
Police say about 90 officers will be on-site each day \u2014 roughly the same number as last year.<\/p>\n
