SAN ANTONIO – Firefighters battled a wind-driven blaze at a small single-family home after a call came in just after 5 p.m., forcing crews to shift tactics as conditions rapidly worsened inside the house.<\/p>\n
Around 5:05 p.m. on Friday, crews rushed to the scene of a reported structure fire near the corner of 500 Nolan Street and North Cherry Street.<\/p>\n
The San Antonio Fire Department said crews arrived quickly and found \u201cextensive fire\u201d in the residence. <\/p>\n
Firefighters initially made \u201can aggressive interior attack\u201d while conducting search operations, but \u201cconditions inside deteriorated extremely quickly due to this being a wind-driven fire,\u201d and crews were forced to exit and move to \u201ca defensive exterior attack.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the fire was brought under control, crews reentered the home to continue searching. The department said the search \u201chas come up negative for any residents inside the structure.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fire also caused structural damage. The department said the home \u201cwas unstable to begin with,\u201d and the extensive fire led to walls and a chimney collapsing.<\/p>\n
One firefighter was taken to the hospital as a precaution with a reported neck and back injury, according to the department. <\/p>\n
