The parade of ships through Galveston Bay marked the beginning of Houston&#8217;s first-ever Fleet Week. <\/p>\n<p>Sign up for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/hellohouston\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hello, Houston!<\/a> daily newsletter to get local reports like this delivered directly to your inbox.<\/p>\n<p>The inaugural Fleet Week celebration is set to bring multiple Navy and Coast Guard vessels as well as more than 1,000 sailors, Marines and Coast Guard members to Houston. During the week, there will be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonpublicmedia.org\/articles\/events\/2026\/04\/13\/548970\/fleet-week-houston-events-schedule\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">20 events<\/a> honoring the Navy,  Marine Corps and Coast Guard.<\/p>\n<p>Commander Cheryl Collins, who serves in the Navy Reserve, said Fleet Week is a chance for residents to meet service members face-to-face.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re coming to places that don\u2019t have a big naval presence,\u201d Collins said. \u201cWe\u2019re educating people on what their sea services are because they pay for them as taxpayers. This is why we have certain cities around the United States that don\u2019t have a big naval presence so that they can learn about us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fleet Week Houston is also occurring during America 250, the official nationwide celebration of the United States&#8217; 250th anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>Randy Thomas, a member of Galveston&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mclgalveston.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Marine Corps League,<\/a> watched the parade of ships go by. His dad and uncles served in the Navy.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Navy is a little bit in my blood, but I love to see all the ships and everything.
